Sealift consists basically of a basket attached to an arm that is swung out over the sea, and is then partially submerged to scoop personnel from the sea. When the casualty is successfully located in the basket, it is then lifted out of the sea and swung in over the deck. The casualty can then safely be transported further by stretcher.
DEVELOPMENT ADVANTAGES
Sealift has been developed in close collaboration with a major oil company, Det norske Veritas and the Norwegian Maritime Directorate.
NMD has encouraged the development and implementation of Sealift into the operator’s emergency responce plans.
Sealift’s key advantages are; it minimises the exposure to risk of the rescue crew by only requiring a single operator in a secure location, it is gentle and effective even in high seas when other rescue devices are rendered useless, and the personnel being rescued remain in a safe horizontal position.
Sealift is solid, simple and reliable, while requiring little maintenance and is subject to world wide patents.
Sealift has further advantages in locations subject to icing in that it can very easily be kept ice-free by running it in the sea.
Sealift can also be supplied with underwater floodlights to illuminate the area in front of the basket.
